Joseph Griffiths' intricate drawings and installations playfully explore the visual and technological systems that dominate contemporary culture.
Images of destruction and creation, fine art and popular icons, nature and the man-made world intertwine to create both a humorous and chilling reflection of the digital age at the brink of an overload. His careful and systematic drawing process evokes the relentless sheen and accuracy of the printed image, simultaneously celebrating and denying the human touch. The random oscillations of his recent drawing machines provide a fresh counterpoint to the precision of his pictorial work, challenging traditional perceptions of the everchanging relationship between man and machine. In 2007 he graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts and has travelled extensively throughout Europe and the United States as well as running his own art direction & design studio in Melbourne. He exhibits regularly in private, public and artist-run galleries and has several works in private collections.
