Young Hunting, designed by Candice Agius, is part of a new breed of unisex Australian jewellery blurring the lines between spiritualism, costume and craft.
Working in .925 silver, leather and stones Young Hunting achieves a sense of exclusivity and preciousness normally only found in fine jewellery, thanks to Agius’ deeply individualised approach to her craft. Agius personally hand makes every piece of Young Hunting jewellery, so each object is unique.
Each collection is a philosophical exploration that questions and transcends realms influenced by a thematic thought.
PHM12 sees a sneak preview of Young Hunting's forth collection Potenza.
In a collaboration with Simone Says, Potenza (Italian for power), explores the theme of power dressing in the form of jewellery and accessories.
Power dressing is a term that has been used since the later 1970s, which reflected an authoritative shift in fashion in favour of feminism. Typically the style itself was achieved with a masculine shape and frequently included a sharply cut tailored jacket, almost always compete with shoulder pads.
Today Young Hunting explores power in dressing through jewellery with a selection of oversized geometric cut stones set in a modernised take of the typical aesthetics of 80's jewellery - triangular shaped and dangerously sharp .925. The reoccurring jewellery as weapon theme appears again in Young Hunting's creations with a fist full of claws and oversized spike rings. And elite status is achieved with black diamonds.
Simone Says explores power with submission through leather accessories. The full face molded leather masks and strapped leather gloves are the perfect accompaniment to Young Hunting's power jewellery. Typical features of the masculine shaped suit appears in the form of black leather collars and leather pocket squares for shirts.
PHM12 will see the reveal of a few pieces from the new collection, with more to follow the following week at Melbourne Metal Collectives group event CAVE.
