Jamie Boys is a Melbourne based artist working in a variety of mediums such as, digital video, photography, painting, installation and sculpture. Jamie has studied at RMIT, Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver BC and VCA, where in 2004 he was 1of 4 artists selected to represent the Victorian College of the Arts at Perth’s Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA).
In the last 6 years Jamie has received a number of accolades including 3rd Prize in the 2007 Linden Postcard Show and has been a finalist in the Collie Print Trust Award as well as the Melbourne Airport’s Innovators Award. In 2007 he was selected for “OFF THE WALL”, at Art Melbourne 07 and in 2008 was included in Renault’s NEW GENERATION section at Art Sydney. Jamie has also been selected as a finalist for this year’s Williamstown Contemporary Art Prize held in March. His work has featured in FRANKIE magazine and on the front cover of ART GALLERY GUIDE AUSTRALIA.
Jamie’s work explores obscure spatial narratives that questions reality and perception. While bordering on absurd and irrational concepts, his work encapsulates a unique and yet strange familiarity. Inspired by Zen philosophy and contemporary architecture, his work allows the audience to contemplate their identity within a particular environment. Jamie is currently working on a 7 year project called CASHMERE IF YOU CAN that involves 7 artists, 7 galleries, over a period of 7 years.
Jamie is currently represented by Chrysalis Gallery East Melbourne and Horus and Deloris gallery Pyrmont Sydney.
