Emma Coulter

Emma Coulter is a UK born, Australian visual artist and freelance designer, with a background in both fine art and interior architecture.

Her arts practice examines issues of self identity in relation to process and context.
Subjects of femininity, biology, sexuality and the psyche are all explored, and translated into an abstract visual language; forming compositions that communicate the artists innermost experiences as exterior expressions. Conversational dialogues are generated through the materiality of visual elements, resulting in an emotional exchange, activated by the context of surroundings and exposure.

Coulter has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia and has recently had her first international solo exhibition, 'viscerality', in Berlin, Germany (2011). She was also selected for last years Directors Cut Exhibition for the Blake Prize (2011). Her work has been featured widely in both print an online publications including the Melbourne City Weekly, Design Quarterly Magazine, Indesign and ANZ’s boutique lifestyle magazine, Inspired. Her work is also included in many private and corporate collections throughout Australia and internationally.

Emma Coulter’s engaging and emotionally charged work can be viewed in two locations throughout the Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Including the windows of Euroluce on Russell Street, curated by Alex Zabotto-Bentley and AZBcreative, and also at Penthouse Mouse, curated by Moth.
