Kuwaii

With only one collection under their belt, brand new-ish Melbourne label Kuwaii presents ENVELOPE for AW2008.

Seams, fold-overs, flaps, triangles, button down tabs and studs ... Kuwaii has it’s heart set on magic … and the second collection ENVELOPE for AW2008 transcends trends to appeal to the highly informed consumer – a girl who is both fun and funny; a thinker and a dreamer.

ENVELOPE is an exploration of shape – with the signature Kuwaii wink and a firm nod to having fun, ENVELOPE for AW2008 has all the
spunky-luxury-playful-practicality that Kuwaii is becoming known for.

Renee Cosgrave and Merryn Lloyd are two young artists studying Painting at Monash University. They have been collaborating together for the past year – both locally and overseas, and are interested in exploring the idea of different artists’ opinions colliding and combining. They have explored this in many different situations – with some basic rules in mind to provide a common ground. They are both interested in creating visual solutions in a range of spatial situations. The resulting work is often temporary and is documented with photographs but ideally needs to be experienced within the space.

They were invited by fashion designer Kristy Barber to produce an installation piece to coincide with the launch of her Kuwaii Autumn/Winter 2008 range Envelope at Penthouse Mouse. Renee and Merryn used the site as a studio space for a week leading up to the launch. They constructed the work within the space; improvising with a range of found materials such as contact, paper, packing tape, electrical tape and paint. The space was created to immerse the viewer in a combination of textures and surfaces.
