Ritual Redemption

The beauty of the rigidness of a ritual is captured in Trimäpee’s “Ritual Redemption”.
Sharp repetitive movements overriding free flowing thought. The mechanical being consumes us as pre-determined actions take their course.

Captivated by the Japanese ritual suicide “Seppukku” (stomach cutting), Trimäpee embodies the persona of the samurai falling into the hands of an enemy, instinctually prepared. Despite the inevitable death, the animalistic intuition swallows fear like a gasp of air in that final breath. An honourable death is greater desired than one of fear.

Inspired by the notion of a ritual and the pride and passion of Seppukku, Trimäpee crafts their garments in this rigid fashion. Structured and robust shapes heighten the sense of this mechanical task, while soft and hand woven leather pieces oppose the severe, depicting the human emotions. Armour like weaves and knits adorn strong tailored forms, whilst marbled smoke-like hand dyed cottons contrast an array of textural wonders. Dark and bleak sets the mood for the base colour palette of the collection, yet is livened by highlights of natural tones of earth green and brown.

Trimäpee’s “Ritual Redemption” is a story of a battle; man vs. machine, torn between one body and one soul. The Ritual: the pre-meditated mechanical actions, versus, The Redemption: the human emotion and passion of the ritual itself.
